She provided the ideas and inspiration we were looking for during the initial phase of the work and managed the delivery very effectively with the builder, helping to deal with the odd difficult moment when these arose. Elaine provided fantastic ideas for us to consider but was also receptive to the ideas we had. The final design was something that we were very happy with. A real testament to the quality of the creation of the design and the level of detail that Elaine provided was that nothing changed during the build. Perhaps even more impressive is that we have lived in the house for 3 years now and there is still nothing that we think is missing or is in the wrong place. Overall Elaine was a great architect to work with and has provided us with a home that we love.

We met Elaine Paterson at an architectural fair at the SEC and she has steered us through the whole process….We remain very happy with the basic layout and are also extremely happy with the mixture of old and new finishes used in the design and finish. It’s a very warm house (in every sense) to live in…It’s elegant, creative, respects the old building and enhances it with modern materials on the extension and porch. The new building with its extension and large windows downstairs and additional rooflights is light and spacious. We love it…….We are extremely grateful for the careful and thoughtful way in which Elaine has guided us through what was certainly a more complex process than we had anticipated and we are delighted with the result, which is fresh and creative and a wonderful retirement home.

Paterson Gordon Architecture was recommended to us by friends who were part way through their own project. The plans for that inspired us to hire Elaine for our own project. Looking back on the whole experience we just would not have been able to achieve the amazing results we have without Elaine’s vision and support. Firstly, with regard to design, Elaine did what I guess all very good architects do which is to give you both what you want alongside what you didn’t know you wanted (or could achieve) in the first place. We fell in love with the design almost immediately. Secondly, the generation of the specification and tender meant we got the look and feel we wanted but within the budget available. Thirdly, the selection of a contractor was part of the process I wasn’t looking forward to but Elaine handled this process very professionally, meeting builders with us and supporting the final decision. Finally, and by no means least, was the project management side of the business. Elaine was on site regularly and dealt with any of the inevitable delays and (thankfully minor) issues with calmness and professionalism, this was greatly appreciated by us and our contractor. I would wholeheartedly recommend Paterson Gordon Architecture to anyone looking for a contemporary, beautiful and practical extension – we could not be happier with the end result.
